Beacon of Light School recently came together to host a coffee morning, raising an impressive £146.85 in support of MacMillan Cancer Support’s vital work.

The event was organised as part of the nationwide campaign that helps fund MacMillan’s services for people living with cancer and their families. For Beacon of Light, it was more than just a bake sale – it was an opportunity for students to contribute to a meaningful cause, learn about the importance of charitable giving and reflect on the ways communities can support those in need.

The event featured a delicious range of sweet treats, including cupcakes and Rice Krispie bites, prepared and sold by both staff and students. A tombola added a fun competitive edge, while some local businesses kindly donated prizes, including

- A haircut and shave voucher for KAZ’s Barber Shop.

- A £15 voucher for Desserts Delivered

The morning brought the school community together in a spirit of generosity and reflection. Many students were surprised to learn how MacMillan supports not only patients but also families and carers – providing medical, practical, emotional and financial help.

By getting involved in the planning and delivery of the event, students developed important life skills such as organisation, communication, teamwork and empathy. Most importantly, they gained an understanding of how small actions – like baking cakes or buying a raffle ticket – can have a real world impact.

The school would like to thank everyone who donated, volunteered or took part, and extend appreciation to the local businesses that contributed prizes. The funds raised will go directly towards helping MacMillan provide essential care and support to individuals and families affected by cancer.
